The Joy of Stamps Shopify Website Case Study

The Joy of Stamps is an established online business selling stamps and collectables for philatelists worldwide, predominantly from eBay. Dewsign were approached to develop a new brand identity and a custom Shopify store. The client required a Shopify webstore running from the Nembol platform so that inventory can be sold via both eBay and Shopify. A brand look and feel to convey a passion for stamps but lets them do the talking, was the rebrand brief!

What we did

We strategically modified the user journey through the Joy of Stamps website to optimise the navigation to any desired collections of stamps. Efficient search functionality was created to enable effective filtering of the huge inventory of products. An integration of Nembol was carried out to migrate products from eBay to Shopify to enable the business to link stock between the two sales outlets. SEO with Klaviyo Email Marketing was also implemented to get the new store up and running on search. The Joy of Stamps also required new branding to implement across their Shopify Store and all other business collateral.

Bringing it all together

Incorporating the new brand identity into The Joy of Stamps new store brought the new site together. With a muted color palette and effective branding, the products are able to do the talking. Each stamp draws your attention and the focus is on the purchase funnel.

UX / UI Design

Firstly a shopify theme was selected that best met the online business goals and functional requirements. We customised and tailored the theme to the The Joy of Stamps user experience; including navigation design, collections setup and filtering, product upsells and optimised call-to-action.

Mobile First

The new The Joy Of Stamps site is mobile-first, smooth, fast and provides users an enjoyable buyer's experience. Searching for a collectable stamp with the filters is now simple and intuitive. With a minimum of 50% of customers clicking through on mobile for the majority of businesses, designing mobile first has never been more important.

Filtering & Navigation

Having a huge inventory of c. 19k products, the filtering and navigation was extremely important for the success of the website. With navigation limited to search by ‘New In’, ‘Country’ and ‘Topic’ a mega menu was used to show all the collections within each topic. Once on a collection page the user is now able to filter more in depth and find what they are looking for easily.


We created a newsletter template incorporating the new brand identity. Email automations will be set up to alert customers of time limited promotions and opportunities to be first to know when new stock has landed.
