B2B & Wholesale on Shopify
B2B and DTC From a Single Platform
For years, businesses selling both wholesale and direct to consumer had to choose: run two separate platforms, or compromise on the experience for one channel. Shopify Plus has changed that. Native B2B features now allow you to serve trade customers and retail shoppers from a single Shopify admin, with separate buying experiences tailored to each audience.
This isn't a workaround or a bolt-on app. Shopify has invested heavily in making B2B a first-class feature of the Plus platform, and the results are compelling. B2B gross merchandise volume on Shopify grew 96% in 2025, making it the platform's fastest-growing segment. The businesses adopting it now are gaining a significant operational advantage.
Dewsign helps retailers and manufacturers implement Shopify's B2B capabilities properly, drawing on over 25 years of experience building complex ecommerce solutions and business management systems.
For smaller businesses with simple B2B requirements there are ways to achieve trade pricing and or ordering using Apps instead of Shopify Plus. So there is typically multiple ways to approach Shopify B2B.
What Shopify B2B Delivers
Company accounts. Your trade customers get dedicated company profiles with multiple buyers, each with their own login and permissions. This replaces the messy workaround of discount codes and hidden collections that many Shopify merchants have been using for wholesale.
Custom price lists. Set different pricing for different customer segments. Tiered pricing, percentage discounts off retail, fixed trade prices, volume breaks — all managed natively within Shopify without relying on third-party apps.
Payment terms. Offer Net 30, Net 60 or Net 90 payment terms to approved trade accounts. Shopify tracks outstanding balances and due dates, giving you visibility over your trade receivables without leaving the platform.
Volume discounts and quantity rules. Set minimum order quantities, case pack sizes and volume-based pricing that reflects the economics of wholesale ordering.
Draft orders and quick ordering. Create orders on behalf of customers, and give trade buyers streamlined reordering tools that remove friction from the repeat purchasing cycle.
Self-serve trade portals. Your wholesale customers can log in, see their specific pricing, place orders, track deliveries and manage their account — without your team needing to process every order manually.
One Admin, Two Buying Experiences
The real power of Shopify's B2B model is that it runs alongside your DTC store. You manage one product catalogue, one inventory pool, one set of business reports — but your retail customers see retail prices and a consumer shopping experience, while your trade customers see their negotiated terms and a streamlined bulk ordering interface.
This dramatically simplifies operations. No more syncing data between two platforms. No more maintaining two sets of product descriptions. No more reconciling inventory across separate systems.
Integration With Your Business Systems
Most B2B businesses don't operate in isolation. Your Shopify store needs to connect to your ERP (NetSuite, Xero, SAP Business One), your CRM, your warehouse management system and your accounting platform. We build these integrations so that orders placed through the trade portal flow seamlessly into your existing business workflows.
Our [Integrations & Custom Development] page covers our full integration capabilities.
What B2B on Shopify Can't Do (Yet)
We believe in honest advice, so here's what you should know. Shopify's native B2B features are powerful but still maturing. Complex quoting workflows where buyers request bespoke pricing for large orders are not yet natively supported. Multi-level approval chains for corporate purchasing are limited. And some accelerated checkout features available on the DTC side don't extend to B2B transactions.
For most wholesalers and trade-selling retailers, these limitations are manageable. For businesses with highly complex procurement processes, we'll assess whether Shopify's native B2B meets your needs or whether a hybrid approach is more appropriate. We'd rather tell you the truth upfront than oversell the platform.
