Why We Chose Shopify

We Weren't Always a Shopify Agency

For most of our 25 years in digital, we were genuinely platform agnostic — and we meant it.

We've built on our own proprietary ecommerce and CMS platform (now on its sixth major version and still running various businesses), WordPress and a range of bespoke PHP frameworks.

We understood these platforms from the inside out, including their limitations. Being platform agnostic wasn't a posture. It was the honest recognition that no single platform was right for every business at every stage.

That changed when we built our first Shopify store in 2015 — for Origin Coffee, incorporating their coffee subscription service and barista training booking. Something was different. Not just the developer experience, which was significantly better than anything we'd worked with at the time, but the commercial architecture: the way Shopify was designed to grow with a business rather than constrain it.

What Changed Our Mind

Over the following years, we watched Shopify do something no other ecommerce platform had managed: consistently improve at the pace that commerce was changing.

The introduction of Shopify Plus opened enterprise-grade capability to mid-market retailers without enterprise-level cost or complexity.

Shopify Markets made genuine international selling accessible without a six-figure infrastructure investment. The app ecosystem matured from a loose collection of bolt-ons into a curated set of best-in-class tools.

Meanwhile, the platforms we'd built on for years were heading in the other direction. Magento's end-of-life created a crisis for thousands of established retailers. WooCommerce's plugin dependency model became increasingly problematic at scale. Bespoke platform builds delivered short-term flexibility at the cost of compounding maintenance and cost burden.

We weren't converting clients to Shopify for commercial reasons. We were converting them because it was genuinely the better answer for their businesses — and we could see the evidence accumulating across our portfolio with every migration we completed.

Why Focus on Shopify Exclusively?

The decision to focus exclusively on Shopify wasn't one we took lightly. We have deep capability in other platforms, and we declined some work to make this call.

But specialisation delivers better outcomes. An agency that maintains deep expertise in a single platform builds genuine competitive advantage for its clients.

We know Shopify's architecture, API surface, app ecosystem, update cadence and product roadmap better than any generalist can.

We know where the platform excels, where its limitations are, and how to work confidently within both. That knowledge compounds with every project we deliver.

Our clients come to us because of our heritage — 25 years of building ecommerce systems from the ground up. They stay because of our Shopify depth.

We are Shopify Partners & Shopify Experts, with decades in digital.
